Reflections on the past reading year so far ...

In accord with Stephen King's advice our reading pile is kept moving. We thought we would again read over 100 books this year but looking at our reviews we have only just passed 70 of which 39 or 55% have been read to completion. We have read far fewer fiction books this years due to thriller fatigue! - 19 pure fiction and 8 semi-fiction 38%. Several books of short stories are under way reflection this as our preferred writing format.

Whilst some say there are too many books to read so do not waste your time to read beyond 50 pages if the book is boring. We tend to try to reach 100 pages and have been rewarded with some books which have taken too much time to get going.

We are approaching Christmas when the Allrighters select their books of the year. Some new categories this year, they are with current runners in no ranking order:-

Fiction

  • Career of Evil - Robert Galbraith (J K Rowling)
  • Make Me - Lee Child
  • Shawshank Redemption - Stephen King
  • Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy - Stieg Larsson

Semi-fiction where the author has used a factual background as a skeleton.

  • Richard Flanagan's Book - The Narrow Road to the deep North
  • Pat Barker's Regeneration Trilogy

Non fiction Biographies

  • Admiral Canaris
  • Brendon Braken
  • Arnie Schwarzenegger - Total Recall
  • Albert Vajda- Journey Round my Eye

Non fiction Factual Accounts

  • The Blood of Strangers - Frank Huyler
  • Do No Harm - Henry Marsh
  • Phantom Army - Rick Stroud
  • Blood tears and Folly - Len Deighton
We read on ...

Good reading to you all.

Alexander and Douglas
